The Network of Committees for Human Rights in Serbia (CHRIS)

The Network of Committees for Human Rights in Serbia (CHRIS) is registered as Associations of Citizens. The Network activities are organized through cooperation of 5 offices (in Novi Sad, Negotin, Valjevo, Novi Pazar and Nis) with all necessary technical resources and 15 employees. It is established due to needs of networking of equal partners that implement direct, free legal advices to a persons whose rights are violated.

The vision of the Network of Committees for Human Rights in Serbia (CHRIS) is building of a civil society, civic consciousness and institutions as a guarantee of the protection and realization of human rights.

The Network of Committees for Human Rights in Serbia CHRIS cooperates with national and international organizations and institutions in Serbia to provide direct legal advices to citizens, analyze the existing data and monitor the specific cases of human rights for the purpose of amending the existing laws and by regulations.

The goals of the CHRIS Network are realized through following program activities:

1.      Direct legal protection for victims of human rights

2.      Informing citizens on human rights and promotion of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms

3.      Education of citizens on human rights

4.      Promotion and protection of human rights in accordance with the highest international legal and professional standards

5.      Building of network of specialized organizations for the promotion and protection of human rights.

Eight non-governmental organizations have participated in the establishment of the CHRIS Network: Human Rights Committee Negotin, Civic Forum Novi Pazar, the Committee for Human Rights Leskovac, Human Rights Committee Bor, the Committee for Human Rights of Vranje, the Human Rights Committee Nis, the Committee for Human Rights Valjevo and the Vojvodina Centre for Human Rights.
